Troop 615
Why should we join your troop?
Troop 615 is very inclusive troop, currently with over 60 registered scouts and over 60 registered adults. The troop is not only youth led, but the scouts receive periodic leadership training through the troop and the District, as well as situational training from older scouts. We are welcoming to all and have been recognized for including special needs scouts. Information on our meetings can be found here, along with information about uniform expectations.
What kind of fundraising do you have?
Our main fundraising activity is our Flag Fundraiser.
What are the expectations/requirements of new adults/parents to the Troop?
All adults/parents are automatically members of the Parent Committee. There is no requirement to attend the Committee meetings, but we encourage you to attend to be informed about troop activities and general information.
Can we trust our scouts on outings?
Troop adult volunteers must complete BSA Youth Protection Training and STAND training required by the Archdiocese of Baltimore, so all adults receive background checks to ensure the safety of the scouts.
Advancements
At what pace do Scouts advance in rank?
Scouts set and advance at their own pace, depending on their schedules.
How does your troop handle Merit Badges?
We encourage completion of Merit Badges and have sessions during meetings to work on them.
How many Courts of Honor are scheduled each year?
We host 2 Courts of Honor, one in March and one in September.
Are service projects a priority?
The Troop works on service projects and encourages the scouts to join them, but it is not a requirement of the troop.
Activities/Outings
Does your troop participate in high-adventure trips?
Yes, the troop participates in several high adventure trips, those are among our core activities. You can find more information about them here.
How often do you go camping?
We have camping outings every month, including during the summer.
What types of campouts do you participate in?
Some of our annual campouts includes Skiing, White Water Rafting, and Scouts BSA Summer Camp
What other activities are your Scouts involved in?
Other activities the Troop participates in includes Scouting for Food and assisting our Chartering Organization with occasional events they host.
How are activities funded?
Awards/Honors
Has the troop achieved Journey to Excellence bronze, silver or gold status?
The Troop has achieved gold status several years in a row.
Has the troop achieved any other BSA awards/honors?
Yes, the Troop and individuals in the Troop have received awards including the Baltimore Area Council Jewish Committee on Scouting, the BSA National Pike District Award of Merit, the BSA Silver Beaver Award, and the BSA Honor Scouter Award.
When do you present awards?
Awards including merit badges and rank advancements are presented during Courts of Honor. Rank advancements and merit badge completions are initially announced at the end of a meeting by the Scoutmaster.
