Meetings
The Troop hosts two primary types of meeting plus multiple activities and events at least monthly:
Troop Meetings
Troop 615 meets every Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM – 8:30PM at the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City. The scouts work on merit badges, scout skills, play games, and generally help each other become better scouts.
Parent Committee
The Parent Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month, during the time of the regular Troop meeting. Committee members provide an update for their particular position, including membership, activities and advancements. Check out the Parent Committee page for more details.
Patrol Leaders Council (PLC)
Scouts with troop positions gather monthly at mandatory Patrol Leader Councils (PLCs) to plan the next month of activity in the troop and discuss patrol progress in earning the National Honor Patrol award. All patrols should have representation at the meeting. Scouts without leadership positions are welcome to attend, but it is not required.
Semiannual Planning Conference (SPC)
Semiannual Planning Conferences occur every six months. This is the meeting where Scouts with Troop positions plan out the next 18 months of Troop outings. Boys decide where to go and what activities they are interested in having. If a patrol leader is unable to attend, the assistant patrol leader or another scout from that patrol should represent them at the meeting. Scouts without leadership positions are welcome to attend, but it is not required.
PLCs and SPCs are mandatory for scouts that are patrol leaders. If a patrol leader is unable to attend, another scout from that patrol should represent them at the meeting. Scouts without leadership positions are welcome to attend, but it is not required.
Stay tuned for news of our upcoming 55th anniversary in June 2026!

Annual Scout Mass
Sunday 23 February at 11:30 attended the mass at Church of the Resurrection, our troop’s sponsor organization, to honor scouting. All scouts and their families were invited to worship with the community and wear your uniform.
Important notes:
If any scout has earned a religious emblem this year, please let Troop Chaplain Arthur McCarthy know by February 1st so we can have that scout recognized at the Mass.
If any scout is an altar server at Church of Resurrection and would like to serve the Mass, please let the Chaplain know by 1 February so he can coordinate that with the parish. If a Scout serves Mass on that day Father Andy has approved wearing the class-A uniform in lieu of the alb normally worn.
There is not a formal mass at St. Paul (the other parish in our pastorate) for Scout Day but for anyone who is a scout who attends St. Paul and plans to attend Mass there during the weekend, let the Chaplain know. For altar servers or those earning religious emblem please let him know and he can coordinate with Deacon George about some recognition of the day as per Father Andy.
Cub Scout Day Camp
Troop 615 will participate in Cub Scout Day Camp again this year from June 23rd to June 27th. The location is the Howard County Fairgrounds.
At Day Camp, Cub Scouts visit various Stations where they can:
Play sports and learn new skills
Learn about nature and science
Perform favorite Cub Scout songs and skits
Shoot on our BB and archery ranges!
Work on rank advancements and activity requirements
For more information about activities at camp, check out examples of the Station Listings and Station Descriptions
Boy Scout Summer Camp
Another annual outing the Troop participates in is Boy Scout Summer Camp (Scouts BSA Summer Camp). As each year, camp will be held at Ockanickon Scout Reservation, the dates are July 20th to July 26th. More information to come, but in the mean time click this link to learn more: BSA Summer Camp
Courts of Honor
The Troop holds Courts of Honor three times per year (generally occurring in February, June, and September) to give peer recognition as well as parental and Troop Committee recognition to those Scouts who have earned awards, Merit Badges, advanced in rank or attained a leadership position. All Scouts are expected to attend the Court of Honor and to wear full Class “A” uniform. Parents, family members, church members, Troop Committee members and friends are encouraged to attend and support their Scout.
Our first Court of Honor this year was held Wednesday March 12th. Our special guest was Howard County Council woman Elizabeth Walsh. The event started with a potluck meal and social time prior to the events starting.
Our second Court of Honor was held Wednesday June 11th. It was a dessert potluck event with a gear swap and many new ranks and Merit Badges were awarded for our newest Scouts to the Troop.
Training
The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, and Venturing programs.
The Scouts must complete YLTs (Youth Leadership Training) every 6 months as this is a vital part of scout growth and development and helps with recruiting.
The following trainings are required for adults, Program Staff, Parent Committee members and adult volunteers:
Youth Protection Training (YPT)
YPT is required for all BSA registered adult volunteers and is a joining requirement.
YPT must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.
YPT teaches leaders how to keep youth safe from abuse, including signs of abuse and how to report suspected abuse.
Position-Specific Training
Basic training for all Scout leaders also includes Position-Specific Training.
This training helps Scouters learn how to effectively perform their Scouting roles.
It's available online and in-person, and includes courses for roles like Scoutmaster and Den Leader.
National Jamboree
Every four years, members form the Scouting community from all over the country get together at the National Jamboree. The home of the Jamboree is in near by West Virginia at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. Imagine the fun of getting 45,000 Scouts together for a 10 day camp out!
Jamboree is more than a destination. It’s the adventure of lifetime. And there is simply nothing else like it on the planet. What’s a Jamboree? It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360-degrees of fun, friends and fellowship with hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenge you to try things you never thought you could.
It’s the beginning of your own heroes’ journey that will challenge you to go farther than you ever thought possible. You’ll reach deeper and lift yourself higher to become the best version of yourself.
The next National Jamboree will be held at Summit Bechtel Reserve from July 22-31, 2026.
Here is a recap from Jamboree 2023.
